Unlock Art
Le Meridian Hotels & Tate Modern
Interactive dinner & immersive performance.
A Taste Of Space collaborated with Tate Modern and Le Meridien Hotels to launch the UNLOCK ART Tate TV series. We were asked to curate an evening of performance that used the term ‘Unlock Art’ as its source of inspiration.
Our response was an installation of 25 networked cages and live performances that happened in London for one night only. The role of spectator in these ‘live works’ was a particular focus in this collaboration. Invitations to the evening were sent in the form of a wooden puzzle to guests’ hotel rooms – leading them to the dining experience.
By blurring the lines between performer and audience in a familiar social context, we created a unique experience that was both familiar and unique for the audience.

Performance & Unlocking Cages.
What awaited the guests was an installation of networked cages with performances littered throughout.
After each course, dining guests unlocked the route to the next set of cages as they progressed through the meal.
Performers worked their way closer to the tables and involved the audience in improvised performance pieces, blurring the line between the spectator and performer.
Journey to Dinner.
Invitations to the evening were sent in the form of a wooden puzzle that arrived in guest hotel rooms at the Le Meridian Hotel. Once they had solved the puzzle there were instructions to find members of staff in the hotel who could direct them where to go. These instructions lead the guests to a private bar where they were served cocktails and canapés before being driven away to a secret location for a five-course gourmet meal.
“After one of the best dinners I've had, and definitely the most unique dining experience I've ever had... the most amazing thing happened... we got caught up in this great thing that unfolded around us.”
